Abstract

Diplomová práce se zabývá územím nacházejícím se mezi Západním vlakovým nádražím ve Varšavě a areálem bývalého plynárenského závodu ve čtvrti Wola. Tato oblast s industriální a železniční historií prošla v průběhu let výraznými proměnami. V současnosti ztratila svůj původní účel a zůstává opuštěná a kontaminovaná. Identitu tohoto místa lze nahlížet prostřednictvím konceptů jako je liminální prostor a terrain vague, které jsou charakteristické pocitem nejistoty, neúplnosti nebo přechodnosti – tedy jako metaforický práh mezi různými světy, epochami či stavy. Návrh na aktivaci této oblasti sestává z alternativních řešení ve formě tří různých typologií: nové rezidenční zástavby, adaptivního znovuvyužití jednoho z plynáren v Wole a adaptivního znovuvyužití logistického skladu. Navrhovaná řešení si kladou za cíl nejen přispět k uzdravení samotného území, ale také reagovat na potřeby nových obyvatel, a to s respektem k dynamicky se vyvíjející přírodní povaze místa.

The master's thesis deals with a site located between the Warsaw West Train Station and Warsaw’s Gasworks complex in the Wola city district. This area, with its industrial and railway history, has undergone significant transformations over the years. Nowadays, the area has lost its original purpose and is left abandoned and contaminated. This site’s identity can be reflected in concepts such as liminal space and terrain vague, which are characterized by feelings of being in the middle of something or being incomplete, making it a metaphorical threshold between different worlds, eras, or states. The proposal for the activation of this area consists of alternative solutions – three different typologies – new residential areas, the adaptive reuse of one of Wola’s gasometers, and the adaptive reuse of a logistics warehouse. These proposed solutions aim to fulfill not only the needs of the area to heal itself but also the needs of new residents, with respect to its rewilded and evolving natural character.
