Abstract
The aim of the proposed thesis is to test different free and open-sourced libraries for Modbus RTU on a simple test unit comprising a singular ESP32 client and two server units using low power Atmega chipsets. The aim of the thesis is to look at standardized baud rates over different libraries to determine the limits of both the protocol data transmission and read speeds to determine if it is the hardware or software that significantly can alter the behavior of the proposal. The initial assumption is that the low memory capabilities of Atmega pose a significant limitation if in such case the Modbus protocol functions with more than two units.
