Around one in three Czechs still live in housing estates composed of prefabricated concrete buildings (“panelák”). The construction of such estates was motivated by an enormous housing demand in towns and cities. In their time, “panelák” housing estates provided affordable housing with good sanitation for a large number of people. Before actual construction, significant amounts of energy were dedicated to theoretical work and analysis, resulting in highquality, functional and practical housing units. This is why, even today, people are still interested in living in these panel buildings.en
