HRM practices are tools used by organisations to get the best out of their workers and hence, achieve superior business performance. The goal of this study is to investigate HRM practices and employee satisfaction in microfinance banks in Nigeria. A purposive sample of 60 senior employees of 10 microfinance banks in Nigeria was used for this study. 60 questionnaires were returned but 59 were found usable for the analysis. In analyzing our data, Pearson correlation, ANOVA, and multiple regression techniques were used. The result shows that a significant positive association exists between human resource planning, training and development, employee compensation and employee satisfaction. However, an insignificant positive relationship exists between work environment and employee satisfaction. Only three out of the four hypotheses are supported. The authors, therefore, recommend that organizations that want to remain competitive must ensure that various stakeholders are satisfied (including employees) by implementing a robust HRM practices
- ItemSensitive Analyze as a Tool for Decision Making within Reorganization of Insolvent Compan(Vysoké učení technické v Brně, Fakulta podnikatelská, 2017-06) Poláček, TomášThe paper draws on the results of previous studies recoverability of creditor’s claims, where it was research from debtor’s point of view and his/her debts on the Czech Republic financial market. The company, which fell into a bankruptcy hearing, has several legislatively supported options how to deal with this situation and repay creditors money. Each of the options has been specified as a variant of a decision-making tree. This paper is focused on finding the upper limit for worth of reorganization through the eyes of creditors. The heuristic based on partially unknown probabilities on chance nodes replaced by intervals of probabilities variants. The result is then focused on the comparison and evaluation of the possible best variant for creditors to keep promoting reorganization as the solution for indebted company. A realistic case study is presented in full details. Further introduction of decision making with uncertainties in insolvency proceedings.
- ItemBrand Sponsorship and Social Media. Coca Cola and Carlsberg Illustrated with an Example of the European Football Championship 2016(Vysoké učení technické v Brně, Fakulta podnikatelská, 2017-06) Komańda, MarcinPurpose of the article: Presentation of the issue of brand sponsorship of events in the light of the use of social media for the purposes of brand management in the customer-based brand equity paradigm. Methodology/methods: Two brands (CocaCola and Carlsberg) which were the official sponsors of a sports event (EURO 2016) were monitored in social media. For this purpose information gathered by socialmention.com and likemore.pl were used. Presentation of the results of the analysis required the use of descriptive statistics as well as the Wilcoxon test and a network graph. Scientific aim: Determination of the scope and nature of the influence of sponsorship of an international sports event on the way a brand is perceived by social media users based on a selected set of data derived from brand monitoring. Findings: In case of Carlsberg the attitude of social media users did not change during EURO 2016, however, majority of their statements was connected with the issues related to this sports event. In case of Coca Cola, the perception of the brand by its clients changed within the studied period of time, however, the issues related to EURO 2016 were only one of many other issues raised by them. Conclusions: Assessment of the influence of brand sponsorship of an event on social media users’ perception faces the following difficulties: scope of monitoring, its efficiency, choice of data set generated by the monitoring tool for the analysis, level of recognition of brands and brand multi-sponsorship (parallel engagement of the brand in many events).
- ItemSustainable Logistics of End-of-life Vehicles – Trends in Europe(Vysoké učení technické v Brně, Fakulta podnikatelská, 2017-06) Mesjasz-Lech, AgataPurpose of the article: In the article we have focused on the trends determining the development of reverse logistics of end-of-life vehicles in selected European countries. The analysis concentrates on quantity of end-of-life vehicles which are especially interesting for reverse logistics because of their fitness for recovery or reuse. End-of-life products contain fully valuable elements which, according to the idea of sustainable use of resources, should be recovered. Accordingly, reverse logistics aims at protecting natural resources and the environment through reintroduction of processed waste materials into the economic cycle as valuable products and materials. Methodology/methods: The aim of the article was achieved on the basis of a critical analysis of subject literature and the analysis of statistical data. In the article the method of descriptive and mathematical statistics and dynamic analysis were used. The 2006-2014 years were analyzed. The data come from the data base of the Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. The following variables were taken into account: the amount of end-of-life vehicles (in tonnes and in number of cars), reuse level (in tonnes), recovery level (in tonnes), and recycling level (in tonnes). The analysis was based on a t-Student test for two average values of dependent samples, sign test and the Wilcoxon signed rank test. In order to see if the reverse logistics actions implemented in European countries were effective, the analysis compares the average values of individual variables from the year 2014 and 2006. Measurements were done for the same countries on the same element of population. The chain indexes and the average change tempo for specified variables were calculated. The similarity of the formation of specified variables in each year was compared on the basis of the index of similarity structures. Scientific aim: The scientific aim of the article is to identify the basic trends determining the development of reverse logistics of end-of-life vehicles in selected European countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, The Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Finland, United Kingdom, Norway). These trends are reflected in the amount of end-of-life vehicles designed for reuse, recovery and recycling. Findings: With respect to their total or partial processing, end-of-life vehicles are handled according to the 3R principle (reduce, reuse, and recycle) in order to promote the concept of sustainable development. Unfortunately, the number of end-of-life vehicles in Europe is increasing which is a result of the growing economy and society's wealth. Also the ecological awareness of the producers and consumers is rising which is reflected in the increased number of end-of-life vehicles put through reuse, recovery and recycling processes. The analyzed period shows an average annual increase in the reuse, recovery and recycling indexes in most of the discussed countries. Therefore, we can speak of an increasing ecological efficiency of sustainable logistics of end-of-life vehicles. Conclusions: Sustainable logistics allows to recover value from used products. End-of-life products contain materials of full value that should be recovered, which undoubtedly fosters sustainable use of resources. European countries vary according to both the effort and the result of the end-of-life vehicles recovery which is due to economic, legal and cultural circumstances. But research shows the existence of positive trends in the realization of reuse, recovery and recycling processes of end-of-life vehicles. These tendencies should delineate further activities in this area.
- ItemHyperparameter Optimization of Artificial Neural Network in Customer Churn Prediction using Genetic Algorithm(Vysoké učení technické v Brně, Fakulta podnikatelská, 2017-06) Fridrich, MartinPurpose of the article: The ability of the company to predict customer churn and retain customers is considered to be worthy competitive advantage since it improves cost allocation in customer retention programs, retaining future revenue and profits. In addition, it has several positive indirect impacts such as increasing customer’s loyalty. Therefore, the focus of the article is on building highly reliable and robust classification model, which deals with such a task. Methodology/methods: The analysis is carried out on labelled ecommerce retail dataset describing 10 000 most valuable customers with the highest CLV (Customer Lifetime Value). To obtain the best performing ANN (Artificial Neural Network) classification model, proposed hyperparameter search space is explored with genetic algorithm to find suitable parameter settings. ANN classification performance is measured with regard to prediction ability, which is understood as point estimate of AUC (Area Under Curve) mean on 4fold cross-validation set. Explored part of hyperparameter search space is analyzed with conditional inference tree structure addressing underlying fundamental context of given optimization which results in identification of critical factors leading to well performing ANN classification model. Scientific aim: To present and execute experimental design for performance evaluation and hyperparameter optimization of classification models, which are used for customer churn prediction. Findings: It is concluded and statistically proven that in experimental context described, regularization parameter as well as training function have significant influence on classifiers AUC performance contrasting other properties of ANN. More specifically, well performing ANN classification models have regularization parameter set to 0, adaptation function set to trainlm or trainscg and more than 100 training epochs. Global optimum is identified for solution with regularization parameter set to 0, trainlm adaptation function, 350 training epochs and 7-4-2 architecture. Conclusions: Results imply that placing hyperparameter optimization to ANN classification model leads to improved customer churn prediction ability. The article describes design and execution of machine learning pipeline, hyperparameter optimization and original meta-analysis of the results with conditional inference tree structure, which are considered beneficial for further research.
