Abstract

Tomkovo náměstí je místo bez jasné identity. Nečitelnost prostoru zapříčinila doprava, která se zde stává určujícím prvkem a ovlivňuje podobu náměstí od minulosti. V důsledku mnoha dopravních změn musela původní zástavba ustoupit, uliční linie byly narušeny. To lze pozorovat na torzech architektury staveb a velkém množství prázdných štítů domů. Prázdné štíty se nacházejí po celém Brně jako typický prvek vznikajícím kolem dopravních staveb. Tento jev může vyvolávat negaci samotného smyslu přirozeného růstu urbánních struktur, zde se však díky množství a rytmickému opakování štítů stává typickým prvkem, který ohraničuje prostor a tím vytváří náměstí. Hranice je tvořena dvěma hlavními motivy – „zaplněním a prázdnem“. Zaplnění zde představuje hmotu, čistý štít domu. Prázdno je pak prostor ulice, průchod nebo průhled, který někam člověka navádí, většinou s veřejnou funkcí, ať už je to škola, kino nebo autobusová zastávka. Návrh další funkce bydlení ve studentských kolejích, či hostelu vychází z této teze.Tomkovo square is a place without clear identity. The indistinct character of the space is caused by traffic, which is the determining element and has shaped the face of the square since the past. Street lines had to be disrupted and the original buildings had to give ground to many traffic changes. This can be observed on the torsos of the buildings and large quantity of empty gables. Empty gables are typical element created near traffic constructions all through the city of Brno. This occurence can induce negation of the very purpose of natural growth of urban structures, in this case, however, due to rythmic reccurence of the gables, it becomes the staple element, which encloses the space and thus creates the square. The border is composed of two main motives – „solids and voids“. Solids are represented by matter - the empty gables. Voids are street spaces, passages or vistas that navigate somewhere, usually to a place with a public function, such as school, cinema or bus stop.The design of an additional function of student dormitories and a hostel is based on this thesis.
