Richard Paštěka's PhD thesis is focused on three main areas of respiratory research - breathing simulation, patient-ventilator interaction testing and aerosolised drug delivery. These areas are the main topics of three published papers, which create the main part of his PhD thesis. These papers were published in these journal - Scientific Reports, Applied Sciences and Pharmaceutics. This collection of journal papers is further supplemented by an appendix with comments of six papers published in relevant conference proceedings. From the very beginning, Richard has been very actively involved in research and his work contributed significantly to the respiratory related topics. Richard worked systematically on this topic he correctly defined the steps he had to take to achieve scientifically relevant, interesting and applicable results. Thanks to his effort, the respiratory lab is now well established at University of Applied Sciences Vienna. Richard has also been actively involved in other research projects, he supervised several bachelor and diploma theses and he participated in teaching in several university courses. His scientific activities also include a research stay at UTAD (Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro) in Vila Real, Portugal and invited lectures. On the basis of the submitted work I can conclude that Richard fulfilled the objectives set in the thesis and achieved excellent results, which he published in well-established journals and at scientific conferences. He approached the topic in a very creative way - he participated in the design of experiments, data collection, design of methodology and evaluation. Thus, this doctoral thesis meets the requirements expected for the awarding of a doctoral degree.
