Považská Bystrica: Town with an Erased Genius Loci and Stimuli for its Regeneration

Abstract

The 20th century was an era of massive urbanization and big projects that changed the landscape. These changes, in many cases, totally changed the image of the environment. One example of such change is the Slovak town of Považská Bystrica and its surroundings, the historical settlement and landscape structure of which was dramatically altered. Inhabitants of the town have still not adapted to the changed structure and therefore it is important to find and recreate places of connections to cutted threads that would once again anchor man in this landscape and man-made environment.20. storočie bolo érou masívnej urbanizácie a veľkých projektov meniacich tvár krajiny. Tieto zmeny častokrát úplne zmenili obraz prostredia. Príkladom takejto zmeny prostredia je aj slovenské mesto Považská Bystrica a jeho okolie, ktorého historická sídelná a krajinná štruktúra bola porušená a drasticky zmenená. Obyvatelia s novou štruktúrou nie sú zžití a preto je dôležité nachádzať a dotvárať miesta prepojenia pretrhaných nití, ktoré človeka znovu ukotvia, ako v prírode, tak v ľudskom prostredí.
