Abstract

This study explored ultrafast laser ablation's effects on the surface morphology, chemical composition, and wettability of MONEL® alloy 400, widely used in marine applications due to its corrosion resistance. Ultrafast laser ablation created micro/nanostructures, with SEM revealing laser -induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) and increased roughness at higher fluences. XPS analysis identified an outer layer of Ni(OH)₂ and Cu(OH)₂. The contact angles of the laser -ablated samples were higher than those of the polished samples . These findings enhance the understanding of laser -ablated MONEL® alloy 400 and its potential marine applications.
