The Space for Creativity: Reusing of the Empty Urban Spaces for the Creative Industry

Abstract

The empty, in other words unused or abandoned spaces with built infrastructure, create a constant and inevitable part of the urban development processes. They are the results of the political, social, cultural or economic changes in the society or are related to the changes in industry or production. The paper shows the current result of a research project aimed to identifying the potential of empty spaces in selected localities in Bratislava and their possible re-use by the creative industry thus generating creative clusters. Based on the analyses of existing creative clusters in other European cities, it illustrates the possibilities of access to their realization within unused spaces or areas with originally different function.Prázdne, inými slovami nevyužívané alebo opustené, priestory s vybudovanou infraštruktúrou tvoria konštantnú a nevyhnutnú súčasť procesov urbánneho rozvoja. Vznikli ako dôsledok politických, sociálnych, kultúrnych, ekonomických zmien v spoločnosti alebo v súvislosti s rozvojom, prípadne zmenou, priemyslu a výroby. Príspevok prezentuje priebežný výsledok výskumu zameraného na identifikovanie potenciálu prázdnych priestorov vybraných lokalít v Bratislave pre kreatívny priemysel s cieľom vytvorenia kreatívnych klastrov. Na základe analýzy existujúcich kreatívnych klastrov v iných európskych mestách ilustruje možnosti prístupu k ich realizácii v rámci nevyužívaných priestorov alebo areálov s pôvodne odlišnou funkciou.
