CERVERA, I. Koncepční návrh letounu general aviation na elektrický pohon [online]. Brno: Vysoké učení technické v Brně. Fakulta strojního inženýrství. 2023.
Student delivered thesis dealing with conceptual design of fully electric trainig aircraft. This is very actual topic with emphasis on greening of general aviation. Student performed recherche and defined design goals and typical mission of aircraft. During work on design he performed couple loops of optimization trying to find trade-off between endurance and performance on one side and take-off weight and payload on other side. Student had to study independetely problems of electrical propulsion and battery energy storage and recharging. Student finalised design also in form of conceptual 3D CAD model and its visualization. Final design seems to have realistic parameters.

The diploma thesis is focused on the conceptual design of an electrically powered airplane, i.e. a very popular topic on which there is enough information. In the introduction, the graduate briefly explained the motivation for the work, followed immediately by a three-view drawing of the proposed aircraft. In chapter 2, a marketing study is conducted, where two-seater and four-seater airplanes are compared. When a student designs a two-seater airplane, they should compare it in the same category of two-seater airplanes. After that, he designs the individual structural units, the wing, the tail surfaces and performs a basic aerodynamic calculation. In the fourth chapter, the student deals with the selection of the propulsion unit and the propeller, but it is not clear which engine he finally chose. And in addition, it seems that he forgot about the gearbox, because all the mentioned engines have too high revolutions for the diameter of the propeller. The choice of used battery is logical, but he only chose from three manufacturers. In Chapter 5, Structural design addressed the location of the batteries and chose a location in the front and rear of the fuselage. It is not clear whether the engine itself would fit in the front part. Weight analysis empirically calculates the weight of individual components, where it turns out that the aircraft will be heavier than the declared 900 kg. Furthermore, the basic performances are determined, which do not deviate from the values for the given category. At the end of the thesis, there is no evaluation of how the proposed aircraft is better than the competition. The diploma thesis is of a good standard and I recommend it for defense.
