Radek Čuhel's bachelor thesis focuses on past and present missions to the Moon. He describes the historical beginnings during the Cold War where the both the Soviet Union and USA used the first probes and landers for lunar exploration, leading to NASA's Apollo program, having man finally land and walk on the Moon in August 1969. The work then explores later programs, not only American or Russian, but also China and India's lunar programs, and those of the private sector too. This is a good paper which has completed all the requirement demanded of him to pass the work. He has more than adequately covered the history of lunar landings, the landers and rovers used in later missions, described the programs of the different countries, and private companies too, in exploring the Moon up to the present. Overall, this is a paper written with only the occasional grammar and vocabulary errors with no foolish typos as far as this reviewer can see. The reason for this reviewer's reticence in adding further praise to this thesis is that while the body of the Mr. Čuhel's work is done well, the Introduction and Conclusion is very wordy and repetitive with limited insight on how the author feels about his subject. First, the Introduction is not a proper one since it contains descriptive information which is covered in the body of the paper. One major case in point deals with the Soviet Union's Luna 9 robotic lander. In the Introduction on p.10, it is described as "the first soft landing [achieved]" on the Moon in 1966 and contrasted with the later American Survey program one. In chapters 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 he goes into detail describing both missions and states the Luna 9 "landing was executed softly" (p.17). But if this is not enough, in the Conclusion (p. 43) he again mentions Luna 9 was "the first spacecraft to achieve a soft landing"! The problem throughout is though the author is knowledgeable on the subject, and writes well overall on the subject, he still does not comprehend what writing a proper Introduction and Conclusion entails. The language of the paper, though mostly correct, has its errors. On pp. 18-19, there is the usage of the present simple for obvious definite past events, and on the second last line of p. 39, a passive tense should be used instead of the active. The second half of p. 23 is confusing. In relation to style, the author is not consistent in deciding whether to use the 'comma' to separate the thousands in his numbers expressing distance and weight. On pp. 20-21 he leaves a space to separate the thousands, but on p. 39 Radek writes '60,000'. In the references, sometimes the author writes 'pp.' for some references, while omitting them on others. Finally, the author inexplicably places the longer Czech abstract after his Conclusion, instead of before the Introduction. Nonetheless, this work has a lot of merit, and despite my criticism above, is worthy of a mark of 80%/B.
Tématem předložené bakalářské práce jsou historické i současné mise v oblasti průzkumu Měsíce. Práce sestává ze dvou rozsáhlých kapitol. První kapitola se věnuje historickému vývoji průzkumu Měsíce a zaměřuje se na programy organizované Spojenými státy a Sovětským svazem. V druhé kapitole se autor zabývá současnými misemi, jež jsou představovány například čínským programem Čchang-e, dvěma indickými programy Čandraján a navazující budoucí misí rover VIPER, kterou vyvíjí NASA. Z hlediska respektování pravidel standardního jazyka se jedná o práci na dobré úrovni. Nedostatky se objevují zcela izolovaně. Jedná se např. o drobné chyby v interpunkci, ojedinělé použití rodu činného namísto rodu trpného, či nekonzistentní postup ve způsobu uvádění číslovek. Několik gramatických chyb a rovněž některá poněkud neobratná slovní spojení lze dohledat v rozšířeném abstraktu. Text práce je adekvátně členěn s jasnou logickou návazností jednotlivých částí. Rovněž veškeré formální náležitosti byly splněny. Určitým nedostatkem je fakt, že uvedený seznam zdrojů, z nichž autor čerpal, není řazen v abecedním pořadí. Po obsahové stránce práce zcela splňuje zadání a téma bylo s ohledem na požadovaný rozsah zpracováno dostatečně. S přihlédnutím k atraktivitě tématu však postrádám výraznější osobní vklad autora. Po grafické stránce je práce zpracována na velmi dobré úrovni. Práci doporučuji k obhajobě a navrhuji hodnocení B – 88 bodů.
