MEDUŇA, T. Numerické metody zpracování obrazů z kosmické sondy NASA SDO [online]. Brno: Vysoké učení technické v Brně. Fakulta strojního inženýrství. 2020.
The topic of the work is very specific but the knowledge and skills acquired during the completion of the thesis are applicable in a number of branches where image analysis is used. The diploma thesis has a well-thought-out structure. The first chapter is devoted to general information about the Sun, its structure and the properties of its layers are described. We also get essential information about the SDO (Solar Dynamic Observatory) probe, which takes images of the Sun by using different filters. These images are the basis for this thesis. The second chapter introduces the mathematical apparatus needed for image processing, which is the main goal of this work. The text is comprehensive, all necessary definitions and theorems are introduced and correctly cited. Working with the literature is fine, it is clear that the author studied many sources and was able to use a uniform notation. I appreciate the logical structure of the text and the very successful effort to explain the introduced concepts and properties of used methods. A big accent is given to accompanying comments between definitions and theorems - we can see that the author not only understood the principle of the methods but is also able to clearly formulate the experience gained during implementation in the programming part of the work and describe conclusions from them. The third part of the work is the most interesting. The author solved a number of partial problems, which he comments on and illustrates the issue in the pictures. The author met the goals and he obtained high-quality images of carbon C IV emissions. In addition, it is possible to create a video from the images processed in this way. I recommend the thesis for defence with the classification A/excellent.

Digital images acquired by NASA SDO spacecraft are nowadays the most used scientific data for solar physics research. However, interpretation of all spectral channels is not straightforward. Especially C IV ion emission observing by means of 1600 A and 1700 A channels is a complicated task of numerical image processing because of complicated separation of C IV emission from continuum. This master thesis solves this task correctly which is besides others illustrated by videos attached to this work. I consider the assignment of this diploma work as very difficult because of its interdisciplinary character. Very interesting is the section 3.2.1. which was made beyond the work assignment. Finally I appreciate the quality of this work and after addition of some physical background the work has potential of scientific publication.
