The submitted diploma project Sustainable living along the Svitava river by student Alaa Omar meets the requirements for solving the assigned problem. The author has worked variantly on the concepts and demonstrated his own approaches to the problem. The newly designed urban structure respects the elementary compositional links with the surroundings. The author creates a large variety of public, semi-public and private spaces and also appropriately addresses the phenomenon of the river, which is located near the solving locality. The architectural design of the buildings respects their function. The author tried to underline the importance of the newly designed Nová Dukelská Avenue, which is to become the main backbone road connecting the site with the nearby Nová Zbrojovka area. The detail of the presentation of the architectural solution corresponds to the scale of the assignment. The operational function of the area is ensured by internal service roads. Pedestrian traffic does not interfere with these roads in principle. The priority of pedestrian movement is appropriately chosen here, especially close to the Svitava River, where the author creates a pleasant waterfront connecting housing, sport and recreation. The technical and structural design corresponds to the scale of the assignment. The formal level of the work is very good. I highly appreciate the quality and design processing especially of the visualizations. The work shows the conceptual, creative approach of the author, who has done a great deal of work going into adequate detail. I recommend presented diploma project for defence and propose an evaluation – A92.
The diploma work of student Alaa Rifaat Omar is set on a high level by dealing with the chosen topic, that determinates a mostly abandoned neglected area into residential space by the river - a live element, which is framing new urban forming strategies. On the design of the chosen locality is seen a big diligently work and a responsible approach to the design, which enhances the existing location and transforms it into a new residential and recreational site pleasant to stay and live by the river, which face prescribes into the outer interior design of inner courtyards, where creates pathways and surfaces in the design as a „floating river“. The design appears overal professional at an excellent level. The new urban concept works with open spaces which transforms into a pleasant urban development with plenty of open spaces, semiprivate inner courtyards, meeting places in the form of local squares or recreational areas with sport activities. The proposal shows in detail attractiveness of current site elements and highlights them in the form of views along the promenade by the river. The designed form of new buildings shows hight architectonical quality of proposed areas with sustainable details of used materials. Greenery as an accompanying component is applied adequately in the design in all its forms. The abundance of green parks is also very beneficial and is applied in the design at pleasantly sufficient walking distances. The whole work is set on a high level of describing the topic also in the formal way. Student Alaa R. Omar exemplified skillful way of designing and I am highly recommending his work to be approved.
