PEJCHAR, Š. Game Development for Assessment of a Person’s Reasoning, Auditory & Visual skills [online]. Brno: Vysoké učení technické v Brně. Fakulta informačních technologií. 2024.
The student has completed all the objectives specified in the project description. He has developed an Android based game to assess the three cognitive skills, that is, human reasoning skills, auditory skills, and the visual skills. The game was tested with many users and the feedback has been reported in the thesis. The work is publishable in a conference.

Informace k zadání | The thesis was related to development of Android based game that could assess a person’s reasoning, auditory and visual skills. The work was challenging because it not only involved the game development skills but also required understanding of cognitive skills from the perspective of human psychology. The student developed one game to assess audio-visual skills and a second game to check the reasoning skills. The resulting outputs are satisfactory and all the requirements of the thesis were met.
Práce s literaturou | The student reviewed many existing games as well as the literature to understand the cognitive skills. Chapter 2 provides details of the reasoning skill starting with the explanation of human reasoning and then discussing the methods and existing games for the assessment of reasoning. Chapter 3 provides details of the audio-visual cognitive skills starting with the explanation of these cognitive skills and then discussing the methods and existing games for the assessment of audio-visual skills. The conclusion section in both chapters 2 and 3 provide the summary of gaps and the corresponding hypothesis.
Aktivita během řešení, konzultace, komunikace | The student had a very positive attitude and started working on the topic in the winter semester of 2023. I had weekly meetings with the student and he regularly attended the meetings. He worked hard and I found him to be focused. He was well prepared for the meetings.
Aktivita při dokončování | The student regularly consulted me before the submission of the thesis. The work was challenging because the game deployment required integration with a database on the cloud. In addition, frontend user interface was also part of the game development. The student was able to complete all the development in time and was able to submit the thesis within the give timeframe.
Publikační činnost, ocenění | A complete game is developed with backend database integration, frontend user app, and visualization sections. I believe that the work is publishable in a conference and the student is willing to prepare the draft for the conference paper. |

Náročnost zadání | The assignment involves studying and implementing a game to assess cognitive functions, including reasoning, auditory, and visual skills. This is a complex task that requires an understanding of cognitive psychology, game design, and software development. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the project and the implementation requirements, it is evident that the assignment is challenging. The inclusion of machine learning techniques and data management further adds to the complexity.
Rozsah splnění požadavků zadání | The thesis, titled "Game Development for Assessment of a Person’s Reasoning, Auditory & Visual Skills," largely meets the requirements set out in the assignment. It successfully studies human reasoning, auditory, and visual skills through an extensive theoretical foundation. The student addresses data management methods and machine learning techniques, though these sections could benefit from deeper exploration to fully meet the assignment's expectations. The challenges in current assessment methods are identified and discussed, showcasing the student's understanding of the field. The thesis proposes a game design aimed at assessing cognitive skills, which is implemented using Unity and Firebase, fulfilling a core requirement of the assignment. Benchmark tasks are created and integrated into the game design, providing a structured approach to assessing cognitive functions. The thesis goes a step further by testing the game on fifteen users, offering practical evaluation and feedback on the game's effectiveness. However, while the thesis does conduct an analysis of the testing results, a more detailed critical evaluation would enhance the discussion. Overall, the thesis meets the majority of the assignment requirements, with minor areas for improvement in depth and critical analysis.
Rozsah technické zprávy | The submitted thesis consists of 65 pages, which is within the acceptable range for a bachelor thesis (40-100 standard pages). The content appears information-rich and necessary for the scope of the work
Prezentační úroveň technické zprávy | 88 | The thesis is well-structured, with clear sections and logical flow. Each chapter builds on the previous one, providing a coherent narrative.
Formální úprava technické zprávy | 88 | The thesis is generally well-written with minor typographical errors and occasional awkward phrasing. The language is clear, and technical terms are appropriately used.
Práce s literaturou | 88 | The selection of study sources is appropriate and relevant to the thesis topic. The student has used a range of sources, including academic papers and technical documents. However, a more comprehensive review of recent literature could strengthen the background research.
Realizační výstup | 90 | The technical solution, involving game development using Unity and Firebase, is functional and well-documented. The method and extent of validation and verification are adequate, with user testing conducted to gather feedback. The use of external software and source texts is appropriately cited and follows licensing conditions.
Využitelnost výsledků | The work extends published results by developing a game-based approach to cognitive assessment. It provides new insights into the integration of game design with cognitive testing and has practical applications in educational and psychological contexts. The results indicate that games can be a viable method for assessing cognitive functions, contributing to both academic knowledge and practical methodologies. |
