KŮDELOVÁ, T. Řešení inverzních úloh v oblasti výměníků hmoty a tepla [online]. Brno: Vysoké učení technické v Brně. Fakulta strojního inženýrství. 2014.
This master's thesis deals with some special parts of the heat transfer problem. It has been written as a result of the cooperation between the applicant and the firm BVT Technologies, which is specialized in this scientific area. The expert supervisor of this thesis was RNDr. Jan Krejčí, PhD., the executive director of the company. The main results of the thesis were obtained in the frame of his scientific research performed jointly with foreign colleagues (the applicant was a member of team). As a supervisor of rather formal aspects of this work, I can confirm that the attitude of the applicant was conscientious. Despite of the difficulty of the topic, she was interested not only in the studied problems of the heat transer, but also in other related mathematical and engineering areas (ordinary and partial differential equations, control theory and others). Consequently, she has become acquainted with the investigated topic in a larger sense. I appreciate also the choice of the topic itself due to its applicability and difficulty. In my opinion, all tasks of this thesis were fulfilled and answered. Some minor problems occured in the formal and language processing of this work, but their occurence was expectable with respect to the complexity of the topic. Based on previous arguments, I recommend this master's thesis to be defended.

The thesis deals with a mathematical description of a heat (or mass) exchanger's dynamic behaviour and solving an inverse (identification) problem. It means that we want to determine selected parameters of the studied dynamic system based on knowledge of the mathematical model and measured quantities. The topic belongs to the field of applied mathematics - a benefit for engineering area is here undoubtable. The solved problems can be viewed as a continuation of student's bachelor thesis, some more difficult models are considered now (in particluar, time dependent problems are taken into account). I consider the topic to be difficult within diploma thesis (besides a non-trivial mathematical background, a considerable amount of physical knowledge had to be adopted). I can state that the objectives of the work have been met. The text is clearly written and well organised. The overall impression is spoiled a bit by a far from perfect English. I have found some missprints and omissions, e.g. in the first equality of formula (2.18), the constant from the right side of (2.17) is missing, there is a different notation for the volume differential in (2.5) and in the line above, etc. A possible question for defence of the diploma thesis: a) a passing from (2.11) to (2.12) and form (2.15) to (2.16) could be explained (i.e. how Fourier and Laplace transform change derivatives of a function?); b) Differentiablity up to order 2 is assumed for the function p(x,t) in (2.9). Is this necesarry? I recommend the thesis for defence and classify it by degree B/very good.
