The author of the thesis has made an effort to analyse the current options of support and development for small and medium enterprises in the Czech Republic and to present them in a clear way. The content of the thesis is well arranged. The second chapter presents a great amount of support programs created for the SMEs in the European Union and the support initiatives on national level. The third chapter is devoted to evaluation and proposals. In this chapter the author could have focused a little bit more on critical evaluation of the several ways of SME development support and on the formulation of more detailed recommendations, as well as using a clearer form of academic language. Questions to thesis defence: 1) Which form of support, if any, would you recommend to a bakery with 10 employees from the South Moravian Region which is planning to purchase a machinery for dough processing and baking? 2) In case a student has a promising business plan, which form of support would you recommend to him/ her in order to develop it into own enterprise?

The author of the thesis aims to provide new evidence on support and development of small and medium enterprises in the Czech Republic. The issue discussed in the thesis is of a high relevance from both the theoretical and practical point of view and thus appears promising regarding research results. The theoretical background shows a solid anchorage while various forms of public support are clearly explained. Methodological approaches and their applications would have deserved more attention to present original findings in a sophisticated way within the aforementioned case studies. Question to be answered: 1) What methodological tools could be used while evaluating the impact of a specific support on a business project? 2) There is a program of supporting SMEs provided by the Czech Export Bank. Why this program has not been reflected in your thesis?
