Jan Koudelka started his PhD study in 2018. Doctoral state examination he passed in 2020 and in January 2024 he submitted his doctoral dissertation. The thesis deals with the issue of stability in power systems with high penetration of distributed energy sources. The thesis is written as a set of scientific papers focused on the topic of the dissertation which were published in conference proceedings and in journals. The selected papers presented in the thesis concern three categories: transient stability of the power system, frequency stability of the power system and underfrequency load shedding. The main topics presented are calculation of critical clearing time as an indicator of transient stability and the possibility of using new technologies, such as charging stations for electric vehicles, to support the system in an emergency state. The fundamental method used for analysis is dynamic simulations on simplified models of power systems. The topic of this dissertation is up-to-date. The doctoral dissertation brings substantial scientific progress and has an original contribution to the knowledge of the given subject. During his studies, he devoted a lot of effort to the elaboration of the theoretical and practical parts of the dissertation and demonstrated the ability of independent scientific work. As part of his studies, he participated in the teaching of exercises in the subjects of transient phenomena and control of power systems, including teaching in English. In 2019/2020 he spent 4 months at Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble in France. Jan Koudelka is the author or co-author of 17 articles in the proceedings of international and national conferences and 3 articles in journals, 2 of which have an impact factor. 5 publications are registered in the Web of Science database, h index is 1. I am convinced that the candidate meets all the prerequisites for the award of the academic title of doctor. I recommend the dissertation for defence.
