KOUTNÝ, R. Biblioverse - Multifunkční objekt s knihovnou [online]. Brno: Vysoké učení technické v Brně. Fakulta architektury. 2023.
The student showed an excellent willingness to work from the initial theoretical concept to the final design stage. The idea of creating an ambient environment where every visitor can find their own place and feel comfortable in it seems to be a very courageous and challenging idea. The maximum use of the site to create this environment is well done and bold architecturally. Removing the focus on the interior as one of the main parts of the project also seems to be very relevant in the project. Creating variation in the interior space from the general idea of the building to the many elaborate detailing fulfils the original purpose.

Přístup studenta ke zpracování | A | Sophisticated design with extensive use of analysis and diagramming is highly developed in this bachelor thesis. |
The author of the project comes up with a very interesting observation, where he finds a link between the way the information content is physically organised in books and the subsequent emergence of meanings. By designing a new type of library, he tries to find a different way of providing information to the reader that would be free from the underlying meanings due to the physical organisation of books. I therefore evaluate the proposal for a multifunctional building with a library very positively.

Urbanistické řešení | A | The author of the project creatively uses the height overlap between Pekařská and Sladová streets. The resulting form of the house is based on a solar diagram, resulting in a cascading "landscape" on which the life of the library can begin to unfold. The winding floor of the house and the skylights, resembles a mole trail that have organically made their way across the inner block. The attempt to break away from the "functionalist archetype" and approach the cave-like space seems particularly successful on the axonometric diagram of masses and situations of broader relations.
Architektonické řešení | B | To achieve an open flowing space, the author decided to use a wooden skeleton system, a system of glass partitions, green atriums and skylights. Thanks to its staggered volume and non-dominant height, the building does not try to draw attention to itself from the street. The great potential of the stepped, winding floor is undermined by the lack of thought given to the way of working with furniture, which remain deployed in the space in a rather generic way. The idea of the cave like space principle is somehow rationalised into ordinary furnishings that could otherwise blend perfectly with the architectural elements themselves in this project.
Provozní řešení | C | In the theoretical part, the author tries to understand the way libraries were organised in the past. By proposing a new type of library, he attempts to find a different way of providing information to the reader, one that is free from the underlying meanings imposed by the influence of the physical organisation of books. The pitfall to an otherwise strong initial idea comes when the author proposes replacing the conventional physical arrangement of books into categories with a mobile app. Is it even practically possible to use a book search application whose user would not also be forced to use keywords that someone or something has inevitably assigned to a given book? Fortunately, the author's project does not collapse at this programmatically unconvincing point. The design of the library space itself has capacity for additional rethinking of the way in which the reader accesses books and how they are redistributed in the space.
Technicko konstrukční řešení | A | The technical details document the author's sense of anchoring a philosophically strong architectural concept in the real world. In terms of acoustics in open spaces the use of plants at given scale and flat wooden and glass surfaces is insufficient and therefore it is doubtful the acoustic comfort would be felt by library visitors.
Formální úroveň | B | The overall arrangement of information is clear and graphically sensitive. The project is most convincing in the most basic views, namely plan and section. Conversely, the way in which the author has chosen to capture the atmosphere inside the library by the renders does not evoke the author's original written ideas as much. By inserting generic 3D figures, plants, or furnishings into the space, he breaks down the resulting image into "architecture" and "the rest" - what can be chosen from the 3D library. |
