Throughout his PhD studies, Pavel Vostrejs threw himself into isolating lignin and turning it into biodegradable composites, work that sits at the heart of a circular economy. He picked up the necessary lab techniques with unusual speed and then used them thoughtfully to advance his project. I would like to underline that Pavel is a great team player. He fit smoothly into my group, adjusted to shifting circumstances, and always offered constructive input during our shared work. He had a successful research internship at Graz University of Technology, where he got involved in international research and published his findings. His findings on antimicrobial coatings and hydrogels made from nanolignin sourced from agricultural waste have already benn publishe in respected journals, a clear sign of their originality and relevance. For these reasons I consider his thesis an advance for the field in biophysical chemistry and confidently recommend it for defense.
