ČERNÝ, M. Směrování svazku v systémech 5G [online]. Brno: Vysoké učení technické v Brně. Fakulta elektrotechniky a komunikačních technologií. 2025.
The thesis aims to investigate beamforming in 5G systems, with focus on site-specific channel modeling and link-level evaluation using Sionna, in addition to hardware evaluation kits. Consequently, theoretical, simulation-based, as well as measurement-based evaluations are carried out. The work undertaken by the student proves their capability at tackling implementation issues in both software and hardware. The student did a good job at mimicking a real-world deployment by designing a digital replica of the room where the measurements were conducted, and by considering many details in the simulation of the wireless transmission. Generally, the presentation of the work is a bit lacking in terms of readability and structure. This can be attributed to the wide-scope of the topic considered within the thesis, which spans multiple blocks in the transmission chain, both on a software, as well as a hardware level. The literature review was OK, but one of the issues is regarding the citation of non-academic websites for information, instead of official/peer-reviewed documents/articles. The main topic of the thesis, which is beamforming, should have received more attention; many of the results presented are not related to issues of the beamforming itself. Additionally, some results are interpreted incorrectly, especially in section 5.5 with the obtained BER curves. The setup and results in section 5.7 related to beamforming were a bit unclear and some of the decisions taken are not properly explained. The measurements’ section definitely needs more work and clearer explanation to support firm conclusions.
